WePod è un progetto biennale (2023-2025) finanziato dall’Unione Europea per favorire lo sviluppo e la sostenibilità economica del podcasting giornalistico a livello europeo, in un’ottica eminentemente collaborativa, transnazionale e cross-border. A tal scopo, WePod riunisce alcuni tra i più importanti produttori di contenuti giornalistici in Europa, guidati da Prisa Audio (El Pais), che nel corso dei due anni, saranno impegnati nella realizzazione e distribuzione di 24 serie podcast di coproduzione. Il partner accademico di questo progetto è l’Università Roma Tre (Dipartimento Filosofia, Comunicazione e Spettacolo – unità guidata da Marta Perrotta).

Poiché WePod aspira a rappresentare un punto di riferimento per gli editori e i podcaster indipendenti d’Europa nell’ambito ancora largamente inesplorato del podcast di coproduzione internazionale, il lavoro creativo dei partner sarà coadiuvato e integrato dall’attività di ricerca dell’unità di Roma Tre, finalizzata a individuare metodologie e pratiche vincenti per la produzione di podcast cross-borders. La ricerca darà luogo ad alcune pubblicazioni, tra cui report sullo stato del podcasting in Europa, un volume collettaneo sul podcast giornalistico, e un Libro bianco delle coproduzioni di podcast, indirizzato al mercato e alle istituzioni, con raccomandazioni per un quadro giuridico europeo comune sulla proprietà intellettuale nel settore dei media sonori.

Parallelamente, i partner coinvolti nel progetto organizzeranno workshop e webinar per istruire su strumenti e metodi efficaci nella coproduzione di podcast giornalistici, e così favorire la crescita sostenibile del settore. Attraverso queste e altre attività, WePod ambisce a fare da motore per lo sviluppo di un più integrato mercato europeo del podcast.

WePod is a two-year project (2023-2025) funded by the European Union in order to promote the development and economic sustainability of journalistic podcasting in Europe, from an eminently collaborative, transnational and cross-border perspective. To this end, WePod brings together some of the most important European producers of journalistic content – Prisa Media (Spain), Bulle Media (Belgium), Chora Media (Italy), Magyari Jeti (Hungary), Outriders (Poland), Press Freedom Foundation (Serbia) – who, over the course of the two years, will be involved in the creation and distribution of 24 co-production podcast series.

Since WePod aspires to be a point of reference for European companies and independent podcasters in the still largely unexplored field of international co-production podcasting, creative work by the partners will be supported and integrated by the research activity of the Roma Tre unit, aimed at identifying successful methodologies and practices for the production of cross-border podcasts. Research will have many publications as its outputs, including reports on the state of podcasting in Europe, a collective volume on journalistic podcasting, and a White Paper on podcast co-productions, addressed to the market and institutions, with recommendations for a common European legal framework on intellectual property in the sound media sector.

At the same time, the partners involved in the project will organize workshops and webinars to teach effective tools and methods for the co-production of journalistic podcasts, thus encouraging the sustainable growth of the field. Through these and other activities, WePod aims to be a driving force in the development of a more integrated European podcast market.
