Sinossi | Abstract

In Italy, between the end of the Fifties and the first half of the Sixties, a phenomenon of deep economic growth changed the nation in many ways. In the same period the first generation of young people started to be known as such. So medial consumption became a practice that permitted youth to find their meeting places and to express different kinds of performance that guided the appropriation of consumption goods (for instance dancing while listening to music). A revolution in media contents creation (and in users’ attitudes) then overcome some traditional Italian cinema genres. During the end of the Fifties Italian musical shifted from the opera and traditional music, to Italian beat, with a series of movies called musicarelli. On the one hand Italian Cinema made his first generational genre experience showing new social habits and lifestyles. On the other hand it smoothed over all manifest signs of youth rebellion. Furthermore these musicals avoided breaking with the Italian Cinema tradition, creating an hybrid genre between Italian classic comedy and variety show. But musical isn’t the only way, cinema spends pop music value and meaning. My thesis investigates also the partnership between non-musical cinema and pop music.
